By Darrell A. Harris and Philip Keaggy

(Click title for audio demo)

 (Chorus)

The holy kiss

of God and people

flesh and spirit

Bread and Wine

His holy kiss

brings all together

all the human

and divine

(v. 1)

First communion

at that table so long ago

He calls us now in mystic union

all creation knows

(repeat chorus)

(v. 2)

We remember

Jesus’ passion so long ago

He fans to flame each glowing ember

all creation knows

(repeat chorus)

* The Holy Kiss was inspired by the following quote from St. Ambrose in which he describes the Eucharist as a kiss: "You have come to the altar. The Lord Jesus calls you, for the text speaks of you or of the church, and he says to you, 'let him kiss me with the kiss of his mouth' . . . what is the altar, indeed but the figure of the body of Christ - you see the wonderful sacrament, and you may say: may he kiss me with the kiss of his mouth, that is, may Christ give me a kiss" (St. Ambrose, fourth century commentary on the Song of Songs 1:2).
